Job Summary Under direct supervision, assists the surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Provides expert support, assistance, and maintenance of instruments and equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

Direct, check, review, assign, organize, coordinate, train, and report on the work of one or more other Surgical Technicians.

Coordinate equipment configuration to ensure ease of use; place equipment and supplies in the operating room and arrange instruments according to instructions.

Check instruments and equipment for sterility, cleanliness, and functionality prior to the start of the case; assist with setup and use of equipment during procedures; allocate equipment for daily procedures.

Assist team members in positioning the patient on the table; scrub arms and hands, don gown and gloves; aid the team in donning gowns and gloves; don personal protective equipment when required.

Hand instruments and supplies to the surgeon; hold retractors; perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon and circulating nurse during the operation.

Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after the operation per hospital policy.

Apply dressings to the patient following surgery.

Participate in meeting patient safety goals and promoting quality, safe patient care.

Clean the operating room and assist in room turnover.

Wash and sterilize equipment.

Recommend to management guidelines for equipment use, purchase of new or replacement equipment, and additional parts and supplies.

Assemble and comply with case carts with supplies, instruments, and equipment in preparation for the procedure.

Perform other related duties as necessary.

Motivate and provide work direction to other employees without authority to hire, fire, or discipline.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years experience as a Surgical Technician.

Demonstrated ability to perform complex techniques and procedures under general supervision.
