Surety Claims Counsel
Join IAT Insurance Group as a Surety Claims Counsel. The position is ready to fill immediately and may be located at any IAT office, with an option for remote work.
The role reports to the VP, Claims Counsel and works closely with the SVP, Legal. Responsibilities include reviewing, investigating, resolving and negotiating performance bond defaults, payment bond claims, subdivision and commercial bond claims, and managing lawsuit and salvage recovery actions. It requires a hybrid schedule from any IAT office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.
Responsibilities
Interact with attorneys, claimants, owners, field management staff and other parties to resolve claims issues and ensure cost‑effective solutions.
Draft and negotiate necessary documents such as Surety Takeover/Completion agreements, settlement agreements, release correspondence, reports, and exposure analyses.
Collaborate closely with underwriters in assigned regions.
Review and analyze work‑in‑progress schedules, costs to complete, accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
Supervise work of outside counsel and consultants’ bills before submission for approval.
Recommend reserves.
Manage litigation and salvage recovery actions.
Analyze payment bond claims and make recommendations regarding payment.
Select, develop, motivate and train staff to achieve objectives.
Maintain awareness of developments in statutes, regulations, and case law in assigned regions.
Monitor and evaluate employee performance.
Perform other job‑related duties as required.
Qualifications
JD with 4+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.
Licensed insurance adjuster or ability to obtain license in assigned regions or license with reciprocity to regions.
Ability to travel as needed.

Compensation Annual gross salary range: $82,960 – $180,450. Total compensation includes base salary, performance‑based bonus opportunities, 401(k) match, profit‑sharing opportunities, and more.
