Urgent care Advanced Practitioners (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu‑like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. Functioning in lieu of or alongside of a physician, it is essential for an urgent care Advanced Practitioner to have excellent assessment skills in order to recognize more serious conditions and direct the patient to the emergency room for advanced care when necessary.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required for Physician Assistants; Master’s Degree required for Nurse Practitioners.

Work Experience: 2‑5 years of post‑residency clinical experience. Minimum 18 months experience in applicable practice setting required. Adult and pediatric practice experience strongly preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Active state medical licensure and national certification.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Work experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting; applicable office procedures including suturing, splinting, etc.; excellent assessment skills; ability to recognize serious conditions and direct to emergency care.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred: Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records; strong communication and customer service skills; strong listening skills.

Essential Functions

Examining and treating patients.

Taking patients’ medical histories.

Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and X‑rays.

Making diagnoses and prescribing medications.

Treating minor injuries that may require sutures, splints, or casting.

Recording progress notes for follow‑up patients.

Educating and counseling patients.

Ordering and/or carrying out therapy with patients.

Giving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional care.

Work an anticipated four (4), eight (8), or twelve (12) hours per shift assigned by an authorized representative of GoHealth Urgent Care.

All other duties as assigned.
