Overview DaVita is seeking a strategic and proactive Director of Communications to lead initiatives that bolster the company’s reputation and advance key business priorities. This role will oversee core functions including media relations, executive communications, and thought leadership, with a focus on engaging influential audiences such as payors, policymakers, physicians, and investors.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Reputation Management Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that support DaVita’s business goals and enhance its reputation across key external audiences.
Partner with cross‑functional teams to identify opportunities for proactive storytelling and strategic positioning.
Monitor industry trends and emerging issues to inform messaging and engagement strategies.
Media Relations Lead media relations strategy and execution, including proactive pitching, reactive response, and relationship‑building with top‑tier national, healthcare, and local media.
Oversee media monitoring, coverage analysis, and reporting to measure impact and inform future efforts.
Serve as a resource for media inquiries and coordinate cross‑functional responses as needed.
Executive Communications Develop and manage external engagement strategies for select DaVita executives serving as spokespersons.
Provide media training, message development, and interview preparation for executive leaders.
Support content creation for high‑profile speaking engagements, including presentations, talking points, and cross‑functional coordination.
Thought Leadership Identify and elevate thought leadership opportunities aligned with DaVita’s Clinical Excellence and Innovation pillars.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to craft compelling narratives that showcase DaVita’s impact and expertise.
Drive visibility through strategic placement in industry forums, media outlets, and stakeholder engagements.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
8+ years of experience in external communications, with a focus on labor relations, corporate affairs, or enterprise risk
Experience managing direct reports and cross‑functional teams
Strong media relations skills and familiarity with media monitoring tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strategic thinker with ability to navigate complex, sensitive topics
Detail‑oriented with strong project management and relationship‑building skills
Comfort with ambiguity and adaptability to changing priorities
Service‑oriented approach with high accountability and resilience
Healthcare PR or Media Relations experience a priority
