Job Description WSP is currently initiating a search for a

Lead Professional, Electrical Engineer

to join our dynamic team in

Washington, DC . The role will be working in WMATA offices, providing high‑level technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector.

Your Impact

Provide guidance by collecting, compiling, and analysing data relating to work sites, blueprints, GIS maps, substation components, and procurement packages, ensuring compliance with IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NCEC, and NERC standards.

Coordinate, review, and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller projects, ensuring data integrity and code compliance.

Apply high‑level electrical engineering techniques to identify improvements across concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.

Design single‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, general arrangement layouts, substation layouts, grounding grids, and lightning protection in conformance with applicable rules.

Plan future‑ready techniques, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, conduit and trenching, accounting for safety and functionality.

Review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding potentials, short‑circuit studies, protective device coordination, and substation switchyard layouts.

Develop and review plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, coordinating with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients.

Oversee cross‑functional teams of engineers, planners, and construction professionals on mid‑level and multi‑project engagements, managing budgets, hours, expenses, technical calculations, permits, and regulatory analysis.

Prepare data visualisations, tables, charts, sketches, and technical reports for client presentations.

Maintain high quality and responsiveness aligned with Pickett’s standards. Analyze field data to develop risk‑mitigation action plans.

Prepare and implement Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) and interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.

Collaborate on federal, state, regional, and local improvement projects and business development opportunities.

Stay current with latest electrical engineering techniques and practices, exercise ethical decision‑making, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

7 to 10 years of post‑education experience providing design deliverables for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution.

Professional Engineer license (required).

Proficiency in electrical engineering principles, practices, design/build, and permitting.

Extensive knowledge of infrastructure design, including SCADA and telecom integrations.

Experience with planning, design, and construction management of rehabilitation and new design projects.

In‑depth knowledge of engineering laws, codes, and compliance practices.

Strong technical computation skills and ability to assess construction plans.

Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.

High‑level self‑leadership, multi‑tasking, and prioritisation in a dynamic environment.

Independent work with minimal oversight and leadership of junior team members.

Proficient in technical writing, office automation, and design software (CADD, Aspen, CAPE, ETAP, WIN IGS, Inventor, AutoCADD electrical).

Strong critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, and data‑analysis skills.

Experience coordinating subcontractors and ensuring task completion safely and efficiently.

Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.

Availability for schedules beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as required.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $95,000 – $169,300. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less based on qualifications, experience, and location.
