About the Role
We are looking for an experienced
Controls Engineer
to support and enhance automated warehouse operations, specifically Shuttle-based ASRS systems for tote and pallet handling. This role involves troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining control systems to ensure smooth and reliable warehouse automation performance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in
PLC programming, warehouse automation, and ASRS technologies , along with hands‑on experience in high‑volume manufacturing or distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities
Provide controls engineering support for Shuttle-based ASRS systems (totes and pallets).
Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, SCADA, conveyors, shuttle systems, and other automated handling equipment.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and IT to integrate ASRS with WCS (Warehouse Control Systems) and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).
Conduct root cause analysis and implement long‑term corrective actions for recurring control issues.
Support system commissioning, testing, and modification of ASRS controls and equipment.
Maintain control system documentation, schematics, and programming logic.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
Partner with vendors and internal teams to resolve technical challenges and optimize performance.
Contribute to future upgrades, retrofits, and system expansions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Proven experience with ASRS shuttle systems (non‑Kardex), conveyors, and automation for pallet/tote handling.
Strong hands‑on experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, or similar).
Knowledge of industrial networks and protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP, or OPC.
Experience integrating automation systems with WCS/WMS.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in fast‑paced automated environments.
Familiarity with safety systems (E‑stops, interlocks, and functional safety standards).
Willingness to support 24/7 operations with on‑call availability as needed.
Preferred Experience
Experience in large‑scale automated distribution centers or manufacturing facilities.
Exposure to shuttle or pallet‑handling ASRS solutions.
Knowledge of data collection, reporting, and performance analytics.
