Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering and technical support across several departments of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Keyport, Washington. Key responsibilities include supporting the System Acceptance & Operational Readiness Department (Code 20), the Undersea and Combat Systems Depot (Code 31), the Rapid Prototyping and Fabrication Technology Division (Code 32), and the In‑Service Engineering Department (Code 40). The role entails system evaluation, repair, rapid prototyping, and in‑service engineering support for complex undersea warfare systems, incorporating CAD, GD&T, and electronics packaging design as needed.
Job Requirements
A bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering or higher is desired.
Seven years of experience in mechanical engineering for complex systems, including design, development, integration, and test is desired. A master of science may substitute for two years of experience.
Experience with mechanical engineering development standards and techniques, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), is desired.
Experience with electro‑mechanical components/systems, configuration management, and computer‑aided design (CAD) systems (e.g., Solid Edge, Solid Works) is desired. Knowledge of risk identification and mitigation, MATLAB, LabVIEW, test & evaluation analysis, electronics packaging design, and tooling/fixture design is also desired.
U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance required; current clearance a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
U.S. Navy submarine/underwater warfare system experience a plus.
Understanding of military specifications and requirements, drawings, and related documentation used to support military systems.
