The Advanced Control and Automation (AC&A) Engineer will identify, prioritize, and implement APC applications for multiple gas processing facilities. The role supports the Advanced Process Controls Network for Phillips 66 Midstream by developing best practices and training site operators to utilize Advanced Control and Optimization applications. Located in Houston, TX, the position reports to the Manager – Operations Technology, Automation and Systems within the Midstream Center of Excellence. Responsibilities
Partner with process engineering and site operations to identify, develop and execute APC applications Maintain day-to-day operations and sustain benefits for APC applications at multiple gas processing facilities Provide consulting, including training, to improve adoption and utilization of advanced applications Develop and implement best-practice standards for APC, multiunit optimization, and inferential predictor applications Travel to sites as needed to implement and maintain APC applications Assist in preparing quarterly and annual progress reports with key performance metrics Maintain and troubleshoot interfaces with base process control systems Provide consulting to operations and engineering teams on operations and reliability improvements Vet software updates from vendors and assist sites with upgrades Participate in APC and process control peer reviews Support discovery, selection, and implementation of new technologies and practices for Advanced Control and Optimization Required Qualifications
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country Bachelor's degree in Engineering Valid driver’s license 5+ years of experience in multivariable process control and optimization Demonstrated process knowledge in Natural Gas Cryogenic processes Experience with Distributed Control Systems Willing and able to travel up to 35% of the time Willing and able to be on call Willing and able to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering Gas Processing knowledge with understanding of process units and business drivers Knowledge/experience with process control techniques including basic and advanced control design and tuning on major refinery process units Experience with APC and optimization software such as Aspen DMC+/DMC3, Honeywell Profit Suite, Aspen GDOT, Schneider Electric ROMEO, and similar Experience with interfaces between APC technology and DCS such as Schneider Electric Foxboro, Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Experion or similar Knowledge/experience with machine learning tools for data analytics and process control (e.g., Python, R) Ability to work independently and in a team Strong commitment to safe work practices Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Company/Total Rewards
