Senior Project Manager
for a long‑term contract opportunity with one of our direct clients in the
Richmond, VA
area.
*This is a hybrid position; 3 days per week will work on site.
Responsibilities:
Manage and deliver complex IT project(s) with multiple teams and work streams coordinated to an aggressive delivery schedule. This project is migrating systems to Azure.
Leads the team through the Commonwealth Standard for Project Management for successful completion of the project phases: PreSelect, Initiation, Planning, Execution and Control and Closeout.
Serve as a hands‑on technical project manager with development staff and business groups.
Coordinate and communicate with ITD management and staff to coordinate work tasks and resourcing.
Communicate timelines and expectations to technical and business staff.
Collaborate with vendors, consultants, and contractors in the execution of projects including contract management and working with the procurement office(s).
Collaborate with technology leads and solution architects to incorporate agency best practices into project plans.
Adhere to project management practices and governance requirements; coordinate with Project Management Offices.
Maintain project budget, plans, tasks, schedules, risks, and status and disseminate information to team members and customers as defined in the communications plan.
Monitor progress by third‑party vendors and define and measure their progress with metrics.
Ensure documentation of requirements and use cases, facilitate design workshops for assigned projects.
Ensure definition of test objectives, designed test plans and test cases for assigned projects.
Provide the management of project milestones and deliverables for on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
Define, measure, and clearly communicate progress with metrics.
Support system and application training efforts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A minimum of 10 years’ experience managing large projects and a bachelor's degree.
Experience managing large, multi‑stream projects.
PMP or Qualified under Commonwealth of Virginia Qualification Standards for IT Project Managers for Category 4 Projects.
Experience in both Agile and Waterfall project management.
Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint, Project Server)
Required Skills:
10 Years – A proven track record of successfully managing large‑scale, complex IT projects, with a specific focus on cloud migrations (preferably Azure).
5 Years – Experience managing migration project budgets and schedules.
5 Years – Azure services: Familiarity with a wide range of Azure services, including Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery, and Azure Database Migration Service.
5 Years – Cloud concepts: A strong understanding of cloud computing principles (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and hybrid cloud environments.
5 Years – DevOps: Knowledge of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.
5 Years – PMP and Agile/Scrum.
10 Years – Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively translate complex technical concepts for all levels of the business.
10 Years – Leadership: The ability to guide and motivate cross‑functional teams and manage stakeholder expectations.
10 Years – Problem‑solving: Strong analytical skills to anticipate and mitigate risks and resolve issues during the migration process.
5 Years – Adaptability: The ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, demanding environment and manage multiple concurrent projects.
Desired Skills:
5 Years – Automation: Working knowledge of scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
