OR Materials Technician – Rush University Medical Center
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Full‑time position. Pay range: $19.49 - $24.01 per hour.
Summary Under the direction of the Assistant Manager of OR Materials Management, this role ensures the day‑to‑day availability of surgical supplies and equipment for assigned OR service lines. The candidate will support surgical services, maintain material control, and partner with the clinical team to meet patient needs.
Responsibilities
Distribute surgical supplies and equipment to designated locations within the Operating Room.
Receive, unpack, and deliver supplies from vendors and the off‑site warehouse.
Verify shipment accuracy by counting and comparing packing lists with delivery tickets.
Follow up on back‑ordered supplies with surgical buyers.
Assist in maintaining predetermined par levels of supplies.
File pick‑tickets, purchase requisitions, and delivery tickets.
Interact with physicians, nursing, procurement, and other OR personnel professionally.
Maintain environmental cleanliness and order in work areas.
Provide after‑hour coverage on heavy caseload days and work weekends as needed.
Participate in quality improvement processes.
Ensure timely order placement and delivery to meet nursing requirements.
Conduct quarterly physical inventories and support related personnel.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High‑school diploma or GED.
Two years of experience in Healthcare Materials Management, Sterile Processing, Purchasing, Distribution, or Receiving.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of Omnicell hardware/software functions.
Understanding of Materials Management/Purchasing and Inventory Control processes.
Familiarity with surgical equipment and supplies.
Basic understanding of clinical terms and procedures.
Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure and tight deadlines.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the Lawson ERP system (Mobile Supply Chain module).
