Job Description
The Strategic Sourcing Manager will drive value by partnering with stakeholders across multiple departments to deliver source-to-contract activities for various R&D services. Responsibilities include negotiating and contracting with the supplier base and ensuring alignment with category strategies and business plans.
This role requires an experienced Sourcing/Procurement manager to deliver strategic sourcing, contract management, supplier market intelligence, financial productivity, supplier performance management, and risk mitigation.
The Strategic Sourcing Manager must be a change agent, leading by example while aligning with the direction and evolution of the Strategic Sourcing organization. Active category knowledge and change management support are required to challenge traditional spending behavior, service level definition, and policy setting to enable productivity and efficiency improvements.
The role includes development and execution of Sourcing Category Plans, negotiating and contracting with vendors, and ensuring alignment with Strategic Sourcing Category Strategies and overall business goals. Collaboration with business partners and peers is essential. The individual should proactively advise the business while maintaining knowledge of supply markets and delivery models, and be comfortable leading analytics to identify sourcing opportunities.
Essential Functions
Manage strategic sourcing, contract management, supplier market intelligence, financial productivity, supplier performance management, and risk mitigation across various R&D services.
Develop and implement sourcing category strategies aligned with functional goals and objectives.
Establish relationships with key stakeholders to support strategic sourcing activities.
Define and implement supplier management to enable a sustainable competitive advantage; focus on supplier risk and performance.
Maintain knowledge of various R&D services; negotiate SLAs/KPIs and leverage levers to achieve value.
Negotiate and redline service contracts and statements of work using a contract management platform.
Generate sourcing insights using spend analytics, industry intel, and benchmarking data.
Lead end-to-end competitive sourcing activities (RFx) including bid list, requirements, criteria/weighting, cost analysis, business case, and awards.
Maintain sourcing practices in line with corporate ethics, financial policy, and internal control requirements.
Pursue ongoing development of skills, including data-driven insights, business partnering, change and project management, category management, and strategic sourcing.
Knowledge and Skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
Minimum 8–12 years (without Master’s) or 6–8 years (with Master’s) of relevant experience in strategic sourcing & procurement.
Preference toward experience in [BUSINESS] spend categories.
Pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical or life sciences experience is a plus.
Relevant experience: 3–5 years with strategic sourcing & procurement across service categories in the R&D space, preferably with CRO and vendor contract oversight. Pharmaceutical/healthcare/life sciences experience is a bonus.
Technology: Proficient with contract lifecycle management, e-sourcing, spend analytics, and supplier risk management; strong willingness to learn.
Leadership: Ability to contribute to and lead cross-functional teams; strong negotiation, communication, and change management skills.
Analytics: Ability to generate spend analysis and translate insights into action plans.
Business Partnering: Collaborative and consultative approach to align with business leaders.
Fosters Change and Innovation: Challenges the status quo to improve quality, value, service, and efficiency.

Other requirements
CPSM/CPM a plus. Work hours may include meetings outside normal working hours. Travel up to 10%.
The base salary range for this role is $126,200 to $157,800. Base salary is part of the total rewards package including merit-based increases, eligibility for 401(k), medical/dental/vision, life and disability insurances, and leaves per state law. Time-off policy includes flexible paid time off, 11 paid holidays, additional time off during a year-end shutdown, and paid sick time. Total compensation will depend on candidate experience and other factors permitted by law.
