Sutherland Global Logistics, part of the Shearer Companies, and a SEKO Logistics Partner, operates multiple specialty logistics operations across the United States. Headquartered in State College, PA, we are seeking a Distribution Center Manager (DCM) to lead our warehouse and distribution operations in Elkridge, MD. The Distribution Center Manager (DCM) manages daily activities of assigned distribution center(s) (DCs). This position monitors inventory levels to manage expenses, minimize loss and maximize revenue. The individual in this role will ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adheres to approved budgets. This leader has responsibilities to build and retain a highly skilled, motivated and diverse workforce to deliver business, people and results in a rapidly changing supply chain environment. In addition, the DCM will ensure that Company quality standards, profitability targets, as well as national and global compliance standards, are met.
The primary strengths and experience we require for this role include:
Responsible for Profit and Loss (P&L), ensuring that the operation remains cost effective and profitable by estimating costs and negotiating with vendors and/or customers
As the primary customer contact, instills trust and confidence through direct interactions with prospective and current customers
Leading warehouse teams in excess 15 total staff, including direct reports
Successful cross-functional leadership with other departments
Emphasizing personal presence among staff on the warehouse floor
Experience across Shipping, Receiving, Inventory, Quality, Compliance and Process Improvement
Relentless curiosity to challenge the status quo towards process improvement and efficiency
Proficiency in multiple WMS systems, including IMS and Extensiv
Ability to gather and use data analytics, customer input and team feedback to understand business performance in a strategic fashion and translate the data to make operational improvements
Collaborates with Business Development to provide Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and to onboard new business and renewals
A leadership style that is inclusive, highly communicative and designed to support and improve organizational performance through capable people
Ensures that quality and safety standards are being met or exceeded for both the Company and customers; assures that the Company’s FDA and ISO requirements are met
A high-accountability mindset that moves to improvement and correction if reasonable leadership and coaching approaches fall short
Experience with Compliance and Regulatory Agencies in technical, medical and logistics are desired
Intermediate to Expert-Level proficiency in Excel is a plus
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain or related discipline preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of DC/Third Party Logistics (3PL) operations experience; experience in medical device logistics and e-commerce distribution operations
A minimum of four (4) years of direct supervisory experience, including managing a workforce of 20 or more associates (employees and temporary personnel); demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well and maintain expected standards
Working knowledge of DC operations, processes, and material flow methodologies
Experience and/or knowledge of hazardous materials (HM) and dangerous goods (DG) a plus; international shipping experience preferred
Extensive hands-on experience with DC technology (WMS, OMS, TMS, LMS, etc.)
Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service and employee management
Demonstrated experience developing process documentation (flowcharts, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs)); strong knowledge of LEAN and 5S principles a plus
Thorough knowledge of Inventory Control practices, cycle counting and inventory reconciliations
An equivalent combination of education and experience
