About the Role
Join Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as a Data Analyst IV. This role performs complex data analysis and research, producing actionable insights and supports decision-making through data visualization and quality assurance.
Essential Duties
Drives the selection of data visualization tools, the development of standards, usage guidelines, and procedures for those tools.
Identifies data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies by analyzing the content, structure, and relationships within data.
Performs quality assurance and serves as a subject matter expert on data integrity, extraction, and compilation.
Manages and maintains the Tableau Server and Desktop Developer environment.
Accesses information from cross‑sections of the business organization to support good business decisions and provide excellent customer service.
Designs, develops, and maintains visualizations and reports utilizing data visualization tools and best practices.
Consults with performance analysts, program staff, and vendors to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of visualizations.
Reviews and edits materials and recommends revisions in scope, format, and content.
Collaborates with performance analysts to analyze and interpret data patterns, to understand correlations between data sets.
Participates in preparing and presenting performance visualizations and reports.
Participates in data visualization tool system administration monitoring and upgrades.
Consults with internal and external customers to identify user needs.
Compiles and queries data.
Analyzes data using standard statistical tools, methods, and techniques.
Interprets results to identify significant differences in data.
Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality.
Cleans and prunes data to discard irrelevant information.
Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations on data revisions.
Develops reports, dashboards and interactive visualizations using different components of Tableau software including Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep, and Tableau Server.
Modifies existing reports and/or develops new reports by analyzing databases, data sources, and structures for the benefit of users.
Assists in defining, developing, and implementing data standards.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a 1 year per 1 year basis.
Experience : 3 years of data analysis, research, compilation, and/or report writing and design work. Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related graduate level education may be substituted on a 1 year per 1 year basis.
Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver’s license required (state vehicle operation).
Competencies
Extensive knowledge of data analysis and interpretation.
Experience designing complex graphic materials with graphic software or traditional methods.
Business processes and methodologies, data import and export protocols.
Technical requirement analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data modeling.
Communicating technical information effectively.
Proficiency with technical tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, and other heavy data analysis tools.
Developing and presenting reports in multiple formats.

Working with streaming data and unstructured data from multiple sources.
Creating graphical user interfaces, visualizations, mockups, prototypes, and design documents.
Using Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Qlik, or similar platforms.
Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
Analyzing data and deriving informative conclusions.
Effectively organizing and prioritizing work demands in a fast‑paced environment.
Evaluating and making recommendations regarding data integrity.
Translating complex data into user‑friendly information.
Implementing new technology and work processes to enhance decision‑making.
