Field Service & Test Technician/Engineer — Job Description

Summary

In this role you will test advanced furnace systems against approved procedures and customer specifications, then travel to customer facilities to perform installations, final acceptance testing, upgrades, and repairs. You’ll serve as a hands‑on technical expert across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum/pressure, and PLC/HMI domains.

What You’ll Do

Execute full electro‑mechanical testing and validation of complex assemblies with electronic controls prior to shipment.

Install, commission, and place systems into service at customer sites (domestic and international).

Troubleshoot and resolve issues: electrical, mechanical, PLC/HMI, hydraulics, pneumatics, and fluid systems.

Perform mechanical and electrical modifications, including PLC/HMI program updates and ladder logic changes.

Conduct leak testing of vacuum and pressure systems; perform corrective actions and re‑tests as needed.

Deliver customer training on system operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and buy‑off procedures.

Document all work thoroughly: forms, daily reports, logs, start‑up and service records; communicate findings and recommendations.

Collaborate effectively with internal teams and customers; identify root causes and recommend system/process improvements.

Work independently or with a team to meet schedule, quality, and safety goals.

Support varying shift patterns to complete in‑house testing, start‑ups, and field installations.

Travel

Approximately 50% travel within the U.S. and internationally, based on project needs.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

2+ years in a manufacturing or field service environment.

Strong electro‑mechanical troubleshooting skills; equipment maintenance experience.

PLC programming and troubleshooting.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, single‑line diagrams, wiring/mechanical schematics, and drawings.

Proficient with a laptop for programming, reporting, and diagnostics; solid communication skills.

Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, fluid flow, and ladder logic is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Mechanical/Electrical degree

or

5+ years field service experience on complex electro‑mechanical equipment.

Experience with vacuum and pressure vessels.

Comfortable working with a range of voltages (low‑voltage DC through high‑voltage AC; single and three‑phase).

Experience in programming and troubleshooting various PLCs and HMI/SCADA platforms.
