Job Summary
A well-established real estate development and management company is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee property-level accounting and lead a high-performing team of accounting professionals. This role is ideal for a hands‑on leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and brings deep expertise in real estate accounting, financial reporting, and operational oversight.
Base pay range $130,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team of property accountants, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for a diverse portfolio of commercial and multi‑family properties
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance
Manage property‑level budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with asset and property management teams
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations, lease accounting, and tenant billing
Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders to support audits, reporting, and compliance
Drive process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and scalability
Support the Corporate Controller with consolidated reporting, cash flow analysis, and strategic initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA required (or in process)
7+ years of experience, with at least 2 years in real estate or property management
Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams
Strong understanding of property‑level accounting, reconciliations, and lease structures
Proficiency in real estate accounting software (e.g., MRI or similar) and advanced Excel skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross‑functionally
