The Dietitian/Nutritionist reports to the Chief Medical Officer and/or their designee, responsible for developing and coordinating nutrition programs for Total Health Care (THC) medical centers. They assess nutritional needs of patients, develop therapeutic diet plans, and teach the effects of nutrition on health.
Pay Range Base pay range: $60,000.00/yr - $85,000.00/yr. Salary will be based on skills and experience.
Job Summary Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and/or their designee, the Dietitian/Nutritionist is responsible for developing and coordinating the nutrition programs for THC medical centers. They must also assess nutritional needs of the patient population, develop therapeutic diet plans, and teach the effects of nutrition on health. Contacts and interactions vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as direct interaction with THC’s executive management, community organizers, the general public, THC’s patients, physicians, colleagues, assigned staff, vendors, contractors and consultants for the purpose of providing and exchanging information.
Essential Job Functions
Counsels patients concerning health management regimens.
Prepares, conducts and coordinates health education presentations and programs.
Plans and prepares lobby bulletin boards.
Maintains health education resource materials and evaluates their effectiveness.
Assists with the preparation of health education publications.
Submits monthly report of activities to Medical Affairs Director.
Assesses the acuity prevalence quarterly and plans health education programs related to the same.
Performs nutritional assessments.
Educates and advises a wide range of patients with dietary-related disorders on the practical ways in which they can improve their health by adopting healthier eating methods.
Documents patient information in their chart after assessment and counseling.
Confer with doctors and other healthcare professionals in order to coordinate medical and nutritional needs.
Plans, develops and manages projects and programs.
Facilitates group sessions on diabetes and cardiovascular disease on a monthly basis.
Creates and establishes methods of tracking and evaluating achievement of nutrition education objectives.
Completes other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience and Training Required Graduate from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor's in Dietetics or Nutrition. Master's Degree preferred. Three years of patient education in ambulatory medical center or hospital environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of FQHC operations, operating principles, guidelines and bylaws. Excellent leadership, customer service, organizational and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate THC’s vision, and motivate others to achieve organizational, departmental and personal goals. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing). Ability to plan and organize work initiatives to successfully accomplish center/organizational goals and objectives. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate as appropriate. Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify, develop and implement short/long-term strategic goals and objectives. Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships; influence, build credibility and trust. Ability to think critically as well as apply critical thinking skills. Ability to ensure and advocate for quality healthcare and services; and to lead and manage a diverse staff. Must travel to all THC sites.
Licenses and Certifications Licensure as a registered dietitian is required of C.H.E.S. (Certified Health Education Specialist).
