Job Summary The Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team who provides and oversees psychosocial care for selected patients and families. The role includes bio‑psychosocial assessment, intervention, treatment planning, and transportation to community resources. The Social Worker collaborates with other disciplines, participates in committees, and offers education to patients, families, and staff.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide assessment of patients to evaluate mental health/psychiatric history, coping style, illness understanding, barriers to care, cultural issues, abuse/neglect, and domestic violence.

Conduct psychosocial assessment of families; identify decision makers, resources, and cultural factors.

Deliver individual, group, or family counseling; provide caregiver support and end‑of‑life preparation.

Advocate for patients and families to access services and resources; refer to other providers as needed.

Develop comprehensive bio‑psychosocial assessments; employ psychotherapy, crisis intervention, care coordination, safety planning, and complementary therapies.

File mandated assessments (child, elder, disabled adult) and conduct safety assessments for domestic violence; report when indicated.

Identify psychosocial, financial, legal, or psychiatric issues that affect patient care; collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.

Coordinate family/team meetings and provide psychosocial consultation on patient care planning.

Facilitate efficient use of hospital and community resources; participate in case reviews and quality improvement activities.

Maintain current knowledge of service agencies and engage in follow‑up to ensure quality care transitions.

Document timely and relevant information in the patient medical record and complete required reporting.

Qualifications

Master's of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.

Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with relevant clinical experience, or obtain LCSW within 8 months of hire.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Competencies

Clinical experience with complex medical and psychiatric problems; comfort with family engagement.

Rapid assessment and brief treatment, including crisis intervention, couples and family therapy.

Advanced crisis intervention skills; strong assessment and treatment planning.

Proficiency in abuse/neglect/violence, trauma, grief, bereavement, and cultural sensitivity.

Knowledge of medical/psychiatric illnesses and available community resources.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to advocate and negotiate with systems.

Understanding of the role of social work in a fast‑paced medical environment; commitment to professional growth.

Working Conditions

Clinic staff provide care in bedside, treatment areas, and offices; the Social Work team operates 7 days per week.

Flexible schedule to meet patient, family, and staff needs; readiness for on‑call or emergency work.

Patient Population Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned areas.

Physical Requirements

Standing frequently (34‑66%), walking frequently (34‑66%), and lifting frequently (≈35 lb+ with assistance).

Ability to perform fine and gross manipulation, balancing, kneeling, and occasional pulling, pushing, and climbing.

Vision, hearing, and communication skills within normal ranges.
