Statement on Remote Work Policy – Mono County, California Mono County does not allow fully remote positions. Hiring & Retention Bonus
$20,000 upon employment, with a requirement that if the incumbent leaves the position within six (6) months, the entire amount must be repaid.
$10,000 after one (1) year of continuous employment.

Under direction, to perform a variety of professional legal work in the District Attorney’s Office; to handle criminal legal cases; to provide direction and work coordination for other legal and support staff in the District Attorney’s Office; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This represents the series of levels in the Deputy District Attorney class. Incumbents are expected to handle the full range of cases and issues before any court. The entry level (I) position will receive the greatest supervision and will handle misdemeanor and lower-level felony cases. The second level (II) position will work more independently and handle more serious felony cases. Finally, the last level (III) position will experience the largest amount of discretion and handle some of the most serious cases the office carries. In addition, this position may train and assist other deputy district attorneys in the office where needed.
REPORTS TO District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney
CLASSIFICATIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED Provides lead direction for other legal and/or support staff.
Examples of Duties Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Criminal Prosecution Duties Receives and reviews complaints for misdemeanor and felony cases; examines evidence, interviews witnesses, and investigates the scenes of crimes; determines whether or not a crime has been committed and if evidence justifies prosecution; conducts pleading, arraignments, pretrial agreements, and other aspects of criminal trial work; requests investigative assistance to secure evidence or makes personal investigations as necessary; appears in court with complaints and tries cases; presents evidence; confers with judges and/or defense attorneys regarding modification, withdrawal, or changing of charges; performs criminal trial work in the selection of jurors, prosecution of cases, sentences, and disposition of cases; prepares trial briefs; researches questions of law; anticipates and prepares for legal reasoning of defense attorneys; drafts jury instructions; presents opening statements; interrogates and cross‑examines witnesses; argues points of law; presents final arguments and summations; researches legal precedents and previous cases to determine the basis of prosecuting cases; prepares and reviews correspondence; handles appeals as delegates; advises the public on legal problems as directed; maintain confidentiality.

Training and Experience
Deputy District Attorney I: Minimum: Active membership in the State Bar of California. Graduation from an accredited school of law.
Deputy District Attorney II: Minimum: Active membership in the State Bar of California. Two (2) years of professional legal experience comparable to that of a Deputy District Attorney I.
Deputy District Attorney III: Minimum: Active membership in the State Bar of California. Three (3) years of professional legal experience comparable to that of a Deputy District Attorney II.
Assistant District Attorney: Any combination of training and experience, which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Preferred Requirements Broad and extensive professional legal work experience performing criminal law along with an extensive jury trial background. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Pay Periods and Payroll Deductions County employees are paid on a bi‑weekly basis, which consists of 26 pay periods per year. Medical Mono County Contracts with CalPERS To provide health insurance for its employees and currently offers several Preferred Provider (PPO) Plans which are administered by Anthem Blue Cross. Employees have the option to choose from PERS Gold, PERS Platinum, and PORAC. The PORAC Plan is currently only available to members of the Safety group employee’s. Medical plan costs vary based on the plan and coverage you select. The employee and the County share the cost of the plan, which is deducted on a pre‑tax basis. $1,100.00 each year towards your dental coverage if you choose an in‑network Delta DentalPPO Dentist.

Diagnostic and preventative coverage of 70 – 100 % of contracted allowance (based on length enrolled in the plan and dentist visit of at least once per year).
Major services are covered at 50% of the contracted allowance.

Mono County Deferred Compensation 457/401(a) Plan The County provides deferred compensation plan through Internal Revenue Code Section 401(a). Employees have the option to sign up for the 457‑deferred compensation plan and contribute up to the maximum amount allowed by the IRS. If the employee contributes a total of 1‑3% of their pre‑tax salary, the County will match those contributions up to a maximum of 3% into a 401 (a) plan under the employee’s name. The employee may direct the investment of all contributions in accordance with the options or limitation provided by the 401(a) Plan.
