Art Impact Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2014 that uses the healing power of art‑making to support adolescents in drug and alcohol treatment programs and beyond.
We expand these services to other providers in Lake County and beyond, focusing on historically marginalized and underserved populations.
We are seeking a full‑time Executive Director (ED) who has deep experience in nonprofit management and operations.
The ED will serve as the official representative of the organization, leading staff, volunteers, donors, and partners toward the mission of enhancing emotional wellness through creative expression.
The role reports directly to the President and the Board of Directors and is based in Lake County, Illinois.
The position is in‑office with a partial remote option after onboarding.
Immediate start date.
In 2024‑2025 we served over
3,500
participants through regular programs, workshops, and community wellness initiatives.
Our 27 diverse programming partners include after‑school programs, middle and high schools, correctional facilities, rehabilitation centers, veteran programs, LGBTQ+ centers, community centers, and libraries.
Mission: enhance emotional wellness through creative expression and provide non‑judgmental support to those in need.
Responsibilities & Duties Strategic Planning & Management
Develop and implement strategic growth plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
Oversee daily operations, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Maintain and develop Programming Partner agreements.
Prepare, track, and report a budget, aligning fundraising goals with the operating budget.
Develop, maintain, and execute a comprehensive funding plan, including grant research, writing, and tracking; oversee fundraising, event management, and donor appeals.
Conduct daily bookkeeping tasks and maintain calendars for fundraising, events, and grants.
Mission Communications/External Advocacy
Act as the face of the agency in Lake County’s nonprofit community.
Engage in community outreach and brand‑building opportunities.
Build and sustain relationships with program partners, sponsors, and donors.
Manage media relations and social channels.
Oversee content development for the website, social media, and newsletters.
Internal Relations
Lead and motivate staff, volunteers, and board members.
Collaborate with programming staff to ensure alignment with the mission.
Provide concise, timely reports, plans, and financials to the Board; attend all Board meetings; submit a monthly ED report.
Other Duties
Become familiar with program delivery and serve as backup to the Manager of Programming as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Strategic Planning : Measurable nonprofit experience in designing and developing short‑ and long‑term plans aligned to mission and operational budget.
Fundraising : Proven track record of successful fundraising and grant writing.
Leadership : Strong, inspirational organizational leadership that elevates diverse people and cultures.
Collaboration : Ability to respect varied perspectives and build diverse teams and committees.
Financial Savvy : Experienced in financial oversight, budgeting, and forecasting.
Exceptional Communications : Verbal and written skill with concise, transparent language.
Technology : Proficient with MS Office 365, QuickBooks, CRM, and donor management software.
Educational and Other Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (preferred in nonprofit management, business, social work, human services, or education).
Substantial previous experience in nonprofit leadership and a network within the nonprofit community.
Valid driver’s license and ownership of a personal vehicle.
Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Hours and Compensation
Full‑time, salaried (40 hrs/week), $75,000‑$90,000 commensurate with experience.
Paid holidays and unlimited paid time off.
403(b) retirement plan and healthcare reimbursement plan.
Agency closures during the summer (1 week) and holiday season (1 week).
