Base pay range $175,000.00/yr – $190,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
System Architecture: Define requirements, error budgets, tolerance stacks, specifications and execute trade studies to define the architecture for our fluidic system, optimizing performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
Design & Development
Lead the design and implementation of complex assemblies using CAD and simulation tools.
Develop and validate mechanisms for liquid handling, reagent storage, and thermal management.
Define component interfaces and tolerances across mechanical, electrical, and fluidic domains.
Select & integrate components: Pumps, valves, pressure sensors, seals, bearings, encoders, drives, heaters, thermoelectrics, temperature sensors, materials.
Cross-Functional Integration
Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, and software engineers to align mechanical and control architectures.
Partner with assay scientists to ensure mechanical designs meet biological and chemical requirements.
Work with operations, manufacturing, and supply chain to ensure scalability, cost‑efficiency, and high‑quality builds.
Prototyping, Testing & Validation
Lead prototype builds and iterative design improvements based on empirical test results.
Define and execute mechanical and system‑level verification and validation plans.
Analyze performance data and reliability metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (or related) and 10–15+ years designing fluidic / mechanical systems for production instruments or machines.
Demonstrated ownership of complex electromechanical systems from concept through launch.
Expert 3D CAD (SolidWorks); drawings with GD&T.
Deep expertise in one or more of the following:
Reagent storage and delivery – materials, mfg methods, reagent sensitivities
Fluidics and reagent handling systems (pumps, valves, manifolds, sensors)
Thermal management and temperature control (heaters, TECs, thermal cycling)
Precision motion systems or part handling automation
Strong analytical and modeling skills — both mechanical and thermal.
Preferred:
Experience in bioinstrumentation, analytical devices, or medical instruments
Working knowledge of embedded controls, sensors, and mechatronic integration.
Experience mentoring other engineers and influencing design culture.
