Base Pay Range $300,000.00/yr - $400,000.00/yr
Summary A 25% Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized to a highly qualified candidate. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You submit your EDRP application within 4 months of appointment. Award (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (1 to 5 years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status
Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA); or (3) Other residencies (non‑US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) that the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and exposure to an appropriate range of patient‑care experiences
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
Rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
Additional‑year surgery residents may also be appointed as PRPs
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Fellowship trained in Musculoskeletal imaging (for more information, visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/)
Physical Requirements: Pre‑placement physical examination to determine the physical‑cognitive and emotional fitness of candidates for appointment in VA is required and shall be completed prior to appointment.
Duties
Interpret musculoskeletal imaging studies and perform interventional musculoskeletal procedures
Experience in clinical radiology with good understanding of how various subspecialists function and the services they provide
Responsible for general radiology duties when not assigned to the Musculoskeletal service
Opportunity includes splitting time between MSK radiology and general radiology—typically 60% toward MSK
Enter all radiology reports, requests for laboratory studies, CPT codes, and diagnoses electronically into the patient chart
Supervise on‑board personnel and evaluate prospective new hires
Act as a part‑time Radiology‑Educator for residents, students, and fellows
Participate in the random peer‑review process of other physicians within the department and serve on Radiology Service and PVAHCS‑wide committees
Provide direct patient care by evaluating and prioritizing radiology orders, ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory studies, ordering hydration for CT exams, protocolling and approving complex imaging exams, reporting a variety of complex imaging exams accurately and timely, notifying providers of critical imaging results, and performing interventional procedures (if applicable)
Perform joint injections, arthrograms, joint aspirations, and be proficient in reading MSK modalities
Work schedule: 8 AM–4:30 PM Monday‑Friday; work at the Phoenix VA Health Care System Medical Center or as determined by the Department Chief
Additional shifts may be assigned by Department Chair based on departmental needs
Call coverage to be shared in accordance with department policy
