Overview
Job Summary The position is located in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and is responsible for performing toxicological analyses, including screening and confirmatory tests for alcohol, drugs and other substances, participation in research projects, assisting in the operation of the forensic toxicology laboratory and performing other related duties as required. Responsibilities
Support the quality control program by assisting in manufacturing and validating controls, tracking quality control data, and updating standard operating procedures. Assist in tracking pipettes, performing in-house pipette calibrations, and monitoring overall laboratory safety practices. Assist with breath alcohol program when needed. Perform a range of toxicological examinations for drugs and alcohol, including commonly used illegal, prescription, and non-prescription drugs and other selected poisonous substances. Perform complete and definitive toxicological analysis of body tissues and fluids to determine the existence of substances that cause toxicity or changes in human performance. Perform complete toxicological examinations on forensic postmortem cases, DUI cases, and DFSA cases; maintain equipment and instruments and ensure data integrity by servicing and calibrating equipment and performing quality control testing. Access samples, complete forms to report test results, and ensure compliance with chain of evidence and specimen storage procedures. Qualifications and Education
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in toxicology or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology and one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-09 grade. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position that equips the individual with knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. $62,751.00 - $80,900.00; based on funding Collective Bargaining Unit:

No known promotion potential This position is designated as essential (DPM Chapter 12) and will be required to report to work and remain in the event of inclement weather, a declared emergency or government closing. Position Designation:
This position is deemed as “security” sensitive and “emergency” per DPM Chapters 4 (Suitability) and 12 (Essential/Emergency). The candidate/incumbent is subject to a criminal background check, traffic records check, and consumer credit check (as applicable), reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test, and post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test.
