Role Overview At Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), a top 10 global biopharmaceutical leader, we are seeking a visionary scientific and technical leader for the role of

Vice President of Research Business Insights & Technology . Reporting to the Senior Vice President of R&D – Business Insights & Technology (BI&T), you will define and execute the strategy for technology to contribute to BMS’s drug discovery / research team and shape the future of medicine.

You will lead a global team of 175 talented analysts, data scientists, and engineers with hubs in Boston, Princeton, California, Seattle, and Hyderabad. With a budget of approximately $100 million, you will harness data and innovation to drive smarter decision-making in early R&D.

This is an opportunity to transform how we discover and design new therapies, from identifying intervention points in disease to selecting & designing molecules and preparing for INDs and entering into clinical studies, ensuring BMS remains at the cutting edge of scientific discovery through technology.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Vision & Leadership: Develop and execute a bold Business Insights and Technology strategy that aligns with BMS’s portfolio goals and mission.

Operational Excellence: Ensure system reliability and continuous improvement of ELN, LIMS, and analytic tools.

Global Team Leadership: Mentor, develop, and empower a global team; foster an inclusive, high-performance culture.

Innovation in Drug Discovery: Drive innovation on in‑silico drug design and discovery analytics, partnering with R&D groups.

Translational & Precision Medicine: Deliver capabilities for data and insight that bridge R&D, integrating data across preclinical, clinical, and real‑world evidence.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between scientific and technical teams, ensuring data and insights are available for decision‑making.

Portfolio & Budget Management: Oversee a portfolio of analytics projects and platforms, managing an annual budget >$100 M.

Data & Platform Strategy: Advocate for technologies that keep us at the forefront of science and enable rapid scaling of insights.

External Partnerships & Thought Leadership: Represent BMS as a thought leader and nurture strategic collaborations with academia and industry.

Drive a Data‑Driven Culture: Promote a predict‑first approach to drug discovery decision‑making and advocate for analytics tools across research teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant technology or scientific fields (e.g., Computer Science, MBA, computational sciences) and deep understanding of drug discovery processes.

~15+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical, technology, or biotechnology industry, with a strong track record in analytics, data science, or related functions.

Strategic visionary with a history of transforming organizations or strategies at scale.

Significant experience managing large, global teams (100+ employees) and multimillion‑dollar budgets.

Excellent collaboration and influencing skills at senior levels.

Deep knowledge of modern data science, AI/ML, and analytics tools relevant to pharmaceutical research.

Innovation & results orientation with a record of translating new ideas into action.

Broad view of the biopharma R&D landscape and emerging trends in data technologies.

Inspirational communicator capable of articulating vision and energizing others.

Compensation Overview Starting compensation range: $289,600 – $350,900, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities.
