Vice President of Research Business Insights & Technology
reporting to the Senior Vice President of R&D – Business Insights & Technology. You will define and execute the strategy for technology to contribute to BMS’s drug discovery and research teams, leading a global group of 175 analysts, data scientists, and engineers with a $100 million budget.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Vision & Leadership:
Develop and execute a bold Business Insights and Technology strategy, championing cutting‑edge technologies such as GenAI, AI/ML, automation, high‑performance cloud computing to predict, design, and prioritize drug candidates.
Operational Excellence:
Ensure that systems and technology—ELN, LIMS, analytic tools—operate reliably and are continuously improved.
Global Team Leadership:
Mentor a global team, fostering an inclusive, high‑performance culture and building organizational capability by attracting top talent and developing future leaders.
Innovation in Drug Discovery:
Drive innovation on in silico drug design and discovery analytics, partnering with embedded computational chemistry and chemoinformatics groups to accelerate high‑quality candidates.
Translational & Precision Medicine:
Build technology capabilities that enable integration of preclinical, clinical, and real‑world evidence to inform early development strategies.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
Serve as a bridge between scientific and technical teams, delivering technology solutions that make data and insights available for decision‑making at all stages of research.
Portfolio & Budget Management:
Oversee a portfolio of analytics projects and platforms, managing an annual budget >$100 M and prioritizing initiatives that deliver high scientific impact.
Data & Platform Strategy:
Accountable for the development of enterprise R&D data infrastructure and technology platforms, advocating for technologies that keep us at the forefront of science.
External Partnerships & Thought Leadership:
Represent BMS as a thought leader, identifying and nurturing strategic collaborations with academic institutions, industry consortia, and technology partners.
Drive a Data‑Driven Culture:
Foster a predict‑first approach to drug discovery decision‑making, supporting training, communication, process change, and adoption of analytics tools.
Qualifications & Experience
Scientific & Technical Training:
Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant technology or scientific field (Computer Science, MBA, computational sciences). Deep understanding of drug discovery processes.
Proven R&D Analytics Leadership:
~15+ years in biopharma, technology, or biotechnology with a strong track record of delivering results through analytics, data science, or related functions in IT and R&D groups.
Strategic Visionary:
Bold thinker with the ability to envision the future of data‑driven discovery and set a compelling strategy. Experience transforming organizations at scale.
Global People Leader:
Significant experience managing large, global teams (100+ employees) and multimillion‑dollar budgets. Exceptional people leadership skills.
Cross‑Functional Influence:
Excellent collaboration and influencing skills at senior levels.
Scientific & Technical Expertise:
Deep knowledge of modern data science, AI/ML, and analytics tools relevant to pharmaceutical research.
Innovation & Results Orientation:
Passion for innovation, demonstrated ability to translate new ideas into action, outcome‑focused, strong problem‑solving skills.
Industry Perspective:
Broad view of the biopharma R&D landscape, understanding of emerging R&D information technologies.

Compensation Overview Base salary $289,600 – $350,921. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available.
