About the Department The Office of the Vice President for Operations supports the highest ambitions of the University’s teaching and learning, research, and engagement goals with the mandate to oversee enabling infrastructure of the University including the built environment, technology, and human resources organizations.

In support of faculty, students, and staff, the Office of the Vice President for Operations prioritizes an exceptional level of service and delivery of robust business practices that steward the University’s infrastructure resources efficiently and contribute to the long‑range planning and culture of the University.

Job Summary The Director of Logistics and Receiving is responsible for overseeing the complete life cycle of assets, equipment, and inventory for IT Services, Facilities Services, the Department of Safety and Security, and Human Resources.

This leadership role develops and implements standardized models and processes to enhance product delivery, inventory control, and the timely retirement of University assets.

The Director collaborates closely with all operational departments and provides strategic direction through the management of logistics, receiving, and computer acquisitions teams.

This position ensures consistent practices university‑wide, drives operational efficiency, fosters vendor and stakeholder partnerships, and maintains high standards of customer service and financial stewardship.

Responsibilities

Oversee the end‑to‑end life cycle management of assets, equipment, and inventory across key University departments.

Develop and implement standardized processes for asset delivery, inventory control, and retirement.

Provide leadership to managers of logistics, receiving, and computer acquisitions.

Collaborate university‑wide to ensure consistent asset and inventory management practices.

Establish and manage departmental operating budgets, including financial forecasting.

Negotiate with suppliers and manage vendor relationships to optimize costs and service quality.

Ensure accuracy and completeness of asset, equipment, and supply inventories.

Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational improvements.

Assess staff performance and align resources for maximum productivity and project success.

Identify and implement process efficiencies to optimize University resources.

Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to asset management.

Collaborate with manager regarding building management and maintenance.

Place and monitor work requests.

Supervise projects, and serve as liaison to central facilities staff and outside contractors.

Hire, evaluate, and conduct performance evaluations.

Plan and assign work; exercise quality and quantity controls.

Ensure the team maintains shipping and receiving activities and records. Resolve related shipping, receiving, and distribution problems. Coordinate with vendors and budget to ensure that quality and pricing of supplies and equipment meet expectations.

Manage daily operation and regular maintenance of shipping & receiving equipment; authorise purchase of operating necessities; determine need and order repair service.

Perform other related work as needed.

Education Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.

Work Experience Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience

Minimum of five years experience collaborating with faculty and staff in a Tier 1 research university setting.

Minimum three years of experience managing staff.

Develop desktop and IT standards.

Experience with the ordering and shipping systems at Apple and Dell computers.

Simultaneously tracking and managing a large number of open shipping orders.

Scrap/​recycling IT equipment and associated best practices for data destruction.

Coordinating delivery appointments within a large community.

Tracking and maintaining inventory.
