Gastroenterologist (Recruitment-Relocation Incentive/EDRP)
Location: Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, Temple, Texas.
Summary The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System – Temple, Texas, is recruiting two (2) Gastroenterologists to provide direct patient care through GI consultations and follow‑up care in General Gastroenterology and Hepatology for both inpatient and outpatient settings. A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized to a highly qualified candidate. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).
Compensation & Benefits Base pay range: $360,000.00/yr – $390,000.00/yr. In addition to base salary, you will receive a competitive annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, and a comprehensive total rewards package including paid time off, retirement benefits, federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care insurance, and free malpractice protection.
Responsibilities
Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology and maintain professional competency.
Provide comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal illnesses, including those with hepatitis.
Maintain current BLS certification and professional privileges.
Serve as an effective teacher for fellow staff members, house staff, medical students, and allied health care disciplines.
Coordinate activities of other health service personnel and resolve patient‑care problems.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures: colonoscopy, polypectomy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, esophageal ligation or banding, dilation, small bowel biopsy, etc.
Maintain primary, secondary, and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings, establishing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
Dedicate a majority of time to patient care, with allocated time for administrative duties.
Work schedule Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Qualifications
United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
Completed residency training in an approved core specialty leading to board certification; resident physicians in ACGME/AOA accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers.
English language proficiency in spoken and written form.
Preferred: Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology; 4 years post‑fellowship experience practicing clinical gastroenterology; ≥500 EDG’s and 500 colonoscopies; experience teaching residents/fellows.
Physical requirements: moderate lifting (15–44 lb), moderate carrying (15–44 lb), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands, walking 4–8 hrs, standing 4–8 hrs, near & far vision correctable, depth perception, color discernment, hearing, mental and emotional stability.
