Job Summary The Vascular Sonographer I will learn to perform and document vascular studies in the Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory. I must maintain a high standard of medical ethics, stay self‑motivated, and continually expand my knowledge of vascular disease and evolving procedures. Duties include greeting patients, preparing examination rooms, maintaining laboratory equipment, assisting with test scheduling, and promoting laboratory services to hospital staff for optimal patient care.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Assess patient suitability for procedures, review prior examinations, and consult the Chief Sonographer or physician as needed.

Obtain appropriate medical histories and explain testing procedures to patients.

Perform peripheral vascular ultrasound tests efficiently and accurately, following documented protocols.

Conduct plethysmographic studies and duplex ultrasound examinations, identifying anatomic structures and disease extent.

Analyze spectral Doppler flow signals, determine peak systolic velocities, and record findings.

Assist with exercise testing and Doppler arterial pressure measurements.

Adhere to documented hospital infection‑control guidelines.

Enter preliminary results into the vascular laboratory reporting system and EPIC, and notify referring physicians as required by the Critical Results policy.

Keep patient examination rooms stocked and organized.

Help schedule patient examinations in EPIC.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of vascular technology.

Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to promote appropriate laboratory use.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities Required

Operate sonographic equipment effectively.

Use independent judgment to acquire optimal diagnostic information.

Integrate sonograms, laboratory results, patient history, and records to adapt examinations.

Communicate diagnostic information effectively to ordering physicians.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and health‑care teams.

Follow established departmental procedures.

Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Exercise independent judgment for continued learning and clinical acumen development.

Work efficiently under stress and in emergency situations.

Interact with patients of all kinds and maintain prolonged arm positions as required.

Be able to mobilize to other satellite locations of the department.

Working Conditions

Normal working conditions with minimal temperature or noise discomfort.

Potential exposure to infectious diseases; infection‑control guidelines mitigate risk.

Portable evaluations performed when required.

Requires physical strength for lifting patients and equipment.

Qualifications

College undergraduate degree required.

Certified by the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers).

RVT or RVT‑eligible (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers examination).

RVT credential obtained within 2 years of hire.

Related diagnostic ultrasound experience from prior employment or training program.

Certified CPR.

Additional Job Details

Weekend shift, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

On‑site only.

Location: 75 Francis Street.

Scheduled weekly hours: 0 (per diem). Compensation: $31.35 – $46.91 hourly.

Employee type: Per Diem.
