Job Description - Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee Pediatric Hematology/Oncology - Part Time Day Shift (ID: 2504118). Position: Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee Pediatric Hematology/Oncology - Part Time Day Shift. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Role summary:
Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to either inpatient or outpatient units with daily contact with patients. Activities include greeting visitors, directing them to appropriate locations, answering telephones, data entry, maintaining daily and clinical logs, preparing and maintaining patient charts and files, filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mailing patient letters, and delivering supplies and records to an assigned unit. Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of patient care, and the ability to respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and high standards of excellence. Important program notes : For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. The program may involve temporary appointments with potential conversion to permanent non-competitive status in the future. Details include non-competitive to competitive status conversion expectations and eligibility considerations as described by NY HELPS guidelines. Expectations under NY HELPS : Employees may take part in promotion examinations for which they are qualified during temporary and/or permanent service. Duties (may include but are not limited to): Orient patient and/or family to the unit and provide general information regarding the room, unit, and hospital; serve as a contact person for patients and families. Provide information on patient condition within existing policies and direct visitors to appropriate locations. Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts and electronic systems after review by a Registered Nurse; fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions. Receive new admissions and prepare/maintain patient charts, daily logs, and clinic logs. Qualifications
Eligible List Appointment : Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1. If on the Civil Service eligible list, you may receive a canvass letter and must follow the instructions on the letter. Provisional Appointment : In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have: One year of full-time clerical (in a health care setting), secretarial (in a health care setting), or patient care experience. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Nursing Station Clerk 1 when next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. 55b/c Appointment : This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter. Section 70.1 Transfer : Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1.
