Position summary: Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to inpatient or outpatient units where there is daily contact with patients. This team member greets visitors and directs them to appropriate locations; answers telephones; performs data entry; maintains daily and clinical logs; prepares, updates, and maintains patient charts and files; fills out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions; mails patient letters; and delivers supplies and records to an assigned unit. Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care, and the ability to respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Responsibilities
Orient patient and/or family to unit, providing general information regarding the room, unit and hospital and serving as a contact person to patients and families.
Give information on patient condition within existing policies, and direct visitors to the appropriate locations.
Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse; and by filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions.
Receive new admissions.
Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log and clinic log.
Qualifications
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1.
Provisional Appointment: If there is no eligible list with three or more candidates, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have one year of full-time clerical (in a health care setting), secretarial (in a health care setting), or patient care experience. Provisional candidates must take the examination when next offered and be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation; a current 55b/c eligibility letter is required.
Section 70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1.

Pre-employment requirements: Successful completion of pre-employment physical examination and medical clearance, electronic reference check with minimum three professional references, 4-panel drug screen, regulatory pre-employment screenings, and provide copies of any required New York State licenses/certificates.

Salary and Benefits Anticipated pay range: $36,232 - $38,235 per year. Some positions may include location pay or shift differential. Total compensation includes leave, health plans, and a state pension.
