General Education Teacher – Youth Behavioral Health
Location: Memphis, TN (Memphis Youth Academy)

Pay: $60,000 – $65,000 per year
About Youth Opportunity & Memphis Youth Academy Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Memphis Youth Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, is a higher-capacity Youth Academy (approximately 68 beds) serving boys ages 13–18 in a trauma-informed residential setting. The program integrates clinical mental health and behavioral treatment with daily academic instruction, art, music, recreation, and social skills development.
Youth typically spend 6 to 9 months in the program, participating in individual, family, and group therapy, restorative justice, life skills training, victim-impact awareness, and pre-vocational preparation. Small group living units foster stability, engagement, and preparation for reintegration into school and community environments.
About the Role We are seeking a passionate General Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to help youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This role is essential to improving outcomes for students with complex needs through collaboration, structured programming, and a trauma-informed approach.

Key Responsibilities
Instruct students to build academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills
Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with individualized needs and IEPs
Administer developmental and academic assessments
Adapt classroom materials and lessons for diverse learners
Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to teams and caregivers
Counsel students on academic and behavioral challenges
Collaborate with teachers, staff, foster parents, and outside resources
Document grades, attendance, behavior logs, and other required reports
Support the prevention of client abuse through vigilance and policy adherence
Report incidents promptly to ensure safety and compliance
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Education
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks
Valid teaching license
Preferred:
Master’s degree or Special Education certification
3+ years teaching experience with students with behavioral, developmental, or intellectual disabilities
First Aid, CPR, and crisis prevention training (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Demands
Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable
Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed
Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state
Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams
