Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high‑resolution surveillance systems. We have a great opportunity for an Electrical Engineer – System Design in Poway, CA (San Diego, CA). Under general supervision and with regular review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources or information, and potential problems to be encountered. Tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance, documenting findings and implemented solutions, and communicating results to engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal with infrequent inter‑organization or customer contact on routine matters, and may provide direction to design or technician staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop innovative but practical solutions for advanced technical systems, including electrical power systems, vehicle management/flight control systems, payload subsystems, etc.

Architect electrical systems, evaluate electrical circuits and their operation at a system level, develop aircraft power budgets, evaluate equipment for compliance to GA‑ASI requirements, etc.

Provide technical direction to internal functional engineering disciplines and vendors.

Develop and present reports and technical briefs that clearly communicate complex technical concepts during engineering meetings and program reviews.

May function in an advisory or leadership role for a project/program.

Represent the organization as a prime technical contact within the engineering team for assigned project(s)/program(s).

Address technical issues requiring novel and creative approaches drawing on engineering concepts.

Participate in the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.

Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience: six or more years with a bachelor’s degree, four or more years with a master’s degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

General understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as power, grounding, analog/digital circuitry, databus architectures, etc., with experience demonstrating broad application of those concepts and ability to expand knowledge of related concepts, theories, and practices.

Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment, and to organize work assignments to meet established timetables.

Approach problems via core engineering principles and explain complex technical concepts to engineers and other professional staff.

Develop new analyses, processes, and documents that enable other engineers to approach similar problems more efficiently.

Excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Experience with FAA Regulations, NATO Standards, Military Specifications, and other aerospace industry standards is desired.

All applicants must be current U.S. Citizens and must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Experience with aircraft electrical systems is desired.

Familiarity with GA‑ASI products is desired.

Must have and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Able to work extended hours as required.

Aircraft pilot experience is desired but not required.

Able to travel to flight test facilities in Southern California, Arizona, and other locations as required.
