Physician (Gastroenterology) – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
The Cincinnati – OH VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician to work as a Gastroenterologist at our facility. The primary role is to provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and oversee the education of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students. Applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved school.
Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth or District of Columbia.
Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Board eligible/certified in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Family Practice.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical examination and compliance with the physical requirements specified by VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Ability to work long periods of standing or walking in the operating room and outpatient clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
Oversee education and supervision of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students.
Serve, when appropriate, as acting chief of the section and provide guidance to nurse practitioners.
Participate in formal education through teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, and grading sessions.
Maintain clinical privileges and complete required mandatory training and documentation in the electronic medical record.
Participate in continuous quality improvement teams and facility programs.
Manage work schedules, assignments, and patient care needs, including handling frequent changes.
Collaborate with other health professionals to deliver appropriate patient care.
Adhere to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA.
Perform medical procedures and demonstrate training to mentees.
Assist in development and maintenance of procedures and protocols as needed.
Work Schedule and Compensation Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm or 7:30 am–4:00 pm.
