Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications
United States Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA-approved school. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program qualifying for board certification. Residency options include ACGME or AOA accredited programs, or non-U.S. residencies with five years of verified U.S. practice. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis while fully licensed. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred board certification in Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine. Basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certifications are preferred. Experience in volunteer or professional service (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) is considered qualified. Duties
Provide direct patient care in the Primary Care Department. Offer clinical guidance to physician assistants and other staff as requested. Participate in interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient care. Coordinate care with providers within and outside the service line, including other divisions and CBOC clinics. Conduct patient evaluations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and document progress notes. Ensure compliance with medical privileges and credentialing standards. Engage in quality improvement activities, chart reviews, and educational programs. Assist with emergency interventions as needed. Benefits & Compensation
Base salary $240,000.00–$265,000.00 per year. Competitive annual performance bonuses and regular salary increases. Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and optional CME days). Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and 401(k) with up to 5% contribution match. Full federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance; costs carried into retirement. Malpractice coverage with tail protection provided. No physician employment contract restrictions. Full-time schedule Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to discuss adjustments.
