Principal Technical Accounting Consultant Join to apply for the Principal Technical Accounting Consultant role at Xcel Energy.

Position Summary This position conducts specialized analysis and studies, resolves technical accounting and tax issues, and possesses expert understanding of technical accounting, financial, and tax principles, as well as SEC and FERC rules. The role ensures adherence to general accounting and tax rules, SEC rules, and FERC rules as needed, and frequently takes lead roles on unusual and complex assignments. Responsibilities include agreement and order negotiations, providing work instructions, consulting on specific topics within the organization, leading business close cycles, and building and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers and executive management.

Essential Responsibilities

Evaluates proposed transactions for accounting and tax implications, providing constructive analysis and strategic research.

Prepares filings, testimony, and defense of company positions on legal and regulatory matters; may serve as a subject matter expert or witness during proceedings.

Trains co‑workers, subordinates, and new employees; expected to provide supervision or act as team lead within the department.

Builds confidence and relationships with customers and executive management through results.

Uses project management skills to lead complex projects, including business close cycles and successful implementation of problem resolutions and process improvements.

Communicates financial results, impacts, and required actions to business areas and executive management.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Minimum 8 years of general financial/accounting and reporting experience (additional years may be considered for candidates with a Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CFA).

In‑depth knowledge of GAAP, SEC, FERC, and other regulatory rules.

Strong communication skills with the ability to analyze complex business scenarios.

Experience with leadership and project management.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $95,200.00 to $135,200.00 per year.
