Summary In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Guiding Behaviors, the Chief Nursing Officer works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to position patient care services as a destination of choice and a workplace of choice for the best and brightest staff. The CNO will develop a vision for nursing, oversee standards of nursing practice, evidence‑based quality, safety, experience of care and nursing leadership development throughout the facility.

Requirements

Current Idaho RN license required. Must provide licensure or proof of application in process in Oregon within 6 months.

Advanced degree in nursing (MSN, MHA, MBA) required.

Seven years of senior management-level administrative experience in health or business, with strategic direction, board, and medical staff interactions.

Experience as a CNO preferred.

Certification in a nursing executive or specialty practice area (e.g., CENP, NEA‑BC, FACHED) required within 18 months of hire.

What You Will Do

Employ masterful nursing practice and models to lead the nursing organization.

Demonstrate team, performance analysis, presentation, facilitation, planning, and communication skills.

Apply system thinking, change leadership, shared governance, matrix reporting, continuous improvement, process excellence and financial management.

Provide leadership and operational direction to achieve the Priority Strategic Aims (PSAs) at SARMC and contribute to the Saint Alphonsus Health System.

Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, formalizing and implementing the medical center’s mission.

Develop the nursing strategic plan and monitor its performance.

Lead key service, operational and staff areas as assigned by the President or CEO.

Steward human, financial and material resources, ensuring quality, efficiency and alignment with the strategic plan.

Designate Nurse Executive and oversee the following functions at SARMC:

Oversee day‑to‑day nursing operations and collaborate with support staff to ensure safe clinical care.

Ensure staffing policies provide continuous and timely nursing availability.

Recruit, retain, develop, and engage nursing associates and leadership.

Promote shared leadership and decision‑making.

Participate with hospital leaders to meet clinical integration and patient care needs.

Engage nursing directors, managers and front‑line staff to improve nursing practice.

Collaborate with other clinical services to advance High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and Zero Harm initiatives.

Develop and monitor activity for performance improvement and patient care.

Contribute to the nursing operational and capital budget at the senior leader level.

Maintain fiscal stability of Nursing Services and related functions.

Ensure nursing standards align with current research and national professional standards.

Approve nursing policies and standards through the appropriate authority.

Partner with the Chief Medical Officer to implement evidence‑based safety and quality programs.

Lead regional decision‑making and workgroups, driving change within the nursing organization.

Participate in Saint Alphonsus Health System CNO Council and Trinity CNO councils.

Ensure nursing staff adhere to regulatory processes for organization‑wide patient care.

Act as liaison to medical staff committees.

Serve as the administrator on call (AOC) as assigned.
