Software Development Manager, Storefront Automation - Prime Video Prime Video (PV) is a premium entertainment service that offers customers the greatest choices in what to watch, and how to watch it. As a Software Development Manager of this team, you will lead and own some of PV’s most critical software, which is responsible for curating and delivering PV's most anticipated content to our customers. You will ensure that your software is able to meet and scale to the evolving needs of PV. You will define the vision and roadmap for the team. You will recruit, hire and lead software development engineers to deliver this vision. You will set a high bar for operations within your team and own the metrics for your software and programs.

Key job responsibilities

You independently manage a team of SDEs. You are able to assess SDE performance and have experience managing both high and low performers.

You define the strategic vision for your team, partnering effectively with customers and stakeholders.

You establish a roadmap and successfully deliver software that executes that vision.

You are able to independently make short‑term vs. long‑term decisions. You make crisp decisions about what projects move forward and in what priority order.

You proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of your manager, customers, and stakeholders with plans for mitigation before they become roadblocks.

You communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all types of audiences.

You work successfully with customers, leaders, and other engineering teams. You foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues.

You define metrics to measure team development progress, customer experience, and operational excellence.

You improve the quality of the software operational performance metrics owned by your team.

Basic Qualifications

3+ years of engineering team management experience

7+ years of working directly within engineering teams

3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
