Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. Our Diagnostics team in Irving, TX is looking for a Senior Engineering Technician. This role delivers expert technical support in laboratory and manufacturing environments by performing both routine and complex tasks. Responsibilities include applying advanced knowledge to select and operate procedures and equipment critical for the development and production of medical diagnostic instruments, automation systems, and reagents. Main Responsibilities
Serves as the primary point of contact of technical support/ maintenance of instrument up-time in a lab and/or manufacturing environment. Applies a high level of technical support in a specialized discipline using knowledge and theory of scientific method, electronics, engineering, life science, chemistry, mechanics, software, etc. Performs moderately complex electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, developmental or test duties in manufacturing, testing, engineering, maintenance, etc. where judgment and initiative are required to solve problems and make recommendations. Performs both routine and non-routine assignments. May train/supervise technicians on instruments and technician responsibilities in the lab to ensure established procedures are followed. Provides compliance oversight in a laboratory, manufacturing, and/or other environments through approvals and technical functions in support of lab engineering activities. Pulls and reviews maintenance and instrument service logs. Monitors and tracks current and completed Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) performed on instruments. Tracks part inventory, supplies and consumables by department or supporting department. Creates Work Order (WO) request for lab issues and ensures concerns are addressed or fixed. Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of various departmental lab processes with ability to work on most instruments. Uses statistical, mathematical and other quantitative and qualitative methods and measurements as needed. Creates tools and fixtures, and constructs complex engineering prototypes, models and builds special test equipment as needed. Researches, recommends, and implements appropriate changes for product and process improvements. Communicates effectively within and outside of the organization as needed. Leads complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts to identify and resolve product performance issues, ensuring alignment with design intent and operational reliability. Reads, understands and instructs others in the use of manuals, test procedures, and documentation associated with specialized equipment. Reads, interprets, and may create engineering drawings, schematics and complex test procedures. Writes basic procedures and technical documents. Complies to all safety standards and regulatory requirements. Constructs complex engineering prototypes, models and builds special test equipment as needed. Performs testing on prototype electrical and/or mechanical designs as needed. Working knowledge of how to do the DI water microbial sampling and processes. Education and Experience
