As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE), you will be part of a highly creative, efficient team tackling challenging problems building and supporting the operations of Amazon-owned data centers. The Amazon Commissioning team (ACx) defines and manages construction quality to meet customer requirements. The CxE supports vendors, contractors, and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various systems.

Key job responsibilities

Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.

Review design documents, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and manage third-party commissioning vendors in onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.

Own project outcomes by diving deep to resolve technical issues and drive action to address schedule and coordination demands onsite.

Communicate lessons learned and collaborate on program improvements.

Provide multi-discipline input into scheduling, test script development, design, and planning of projects.

Review submittal packages, lead FWT, and perform system-level and integrated system testing.

Audit commissioning activities for environmental, quality, and safety compliance.

Produce comprehensive weekly status reports and lessons learned to improve the program.

Support multiple in-flight projects with tight timelines.

Physical Requirements

Walk job sites on uneven terrain; work at heights and from ladders.

Regularly use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift up to 49 pounds and participate in group lifts for heavier objects.

Carry objects weighing up to 49 pounds for short distances; work shifts longer than eight hours with potential for night and weekend work.

Perform physical tasks throughout the day; manipulate small wires and objects; work in noisy environments and in environments hotter or colder than a typical office.

Additional Job Requirements

Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the year.

Provide personal transportation for meetings away from the office; reimbursement provided.

U.S. Citizenship required.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning experience with electrical and mechanical systems.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 5 years of relevant discipline work experience.

High technical competency in mechanical, electrical, or control systems for critical infrastructures; able to learn others.

Ability to review design documentation (drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, sequences of operations) and provide feedback per Amazon standards.

Experience developing or reviewing commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts, and reports.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); SharePoint or similar tools a plus.

Strong communication, detail orientation, organization, and ability to work in high-stress environments with multiple teams.

Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.

Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).

Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved submittals.
