Armtec Defense Technologies (Armtec) is an operating unit of the Transdigm Group (NYSE: TDG), an industry leader in aerospace and defense products and services. Armtec is comprised of three business units producing subcomponents for ordnance in Coachella, CA; decoy countermeasure flares in Camden AR; and radar countermeasure chaff in Lillington NC. Job Details Job Summary
Applies comprehensive engineering science and industry experience in the design, fabrication, and implementation of new equipment, tooling, and processes to tasks delegated in terms of objectives rather than specific instruction and priorities. Uses mechanics, physics, thermodynamics, mathematics, graphics, hydraulics, and related engineering subjects to complete complex assignments, often across fields. Reviews progress, evaluates results, and has latitude for action. Works with minimum supervision. Recommends and implements procedure changes, develops process improvements through capital investments, and has extensive experience in design, troubleshooting, and manufacturing. Provides guidance, mentoring, and assistance to lower level or fellow employees.
Primary Responsibilities
Coordinates with Engineering and Design in the design of tooling for new products.
Assists Program Management and R&D with mechanical expertise required for special tooling, test tools and methods, and new process study and research.
Prepares cost estimates for tooling and equipment.
Conducts scheduling and coordination between different groups for special projects, bids and proposals, and internal funded studies and projects.
Responsible for equipment improvement and redesign for increasing the general efficiency of production programs.
Interfacing with, and occasional travelling to, outside manufacturers to develop design details and supervise fabrication of equipment for production use.
Supervises the installation of equipment and tooling.
Cooperates with Program Managers, R&D, Engineering and Management in the detail work in infrastructure improvement, capital expenditure requests, financial and economic justification, and return of investment.
Supports Maintenance, Production, and Quality. Stays informed concerning new technologies, materials and equipment, and investigates potential applications.
Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above.
Understand and live by Armtec’s ethics and business conduct policies.
Qualifications
Knowledge of mechanical principles, material strength, material science and metallurgy, hydraulics, and thermodynamics.
Good math skills, computer skills, and knowledge of measuring instruments and methods.
Solid knowledge of modern fabrication methods, machine shop practices and techniques.
Good troubleshooting skills.
Capable of integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve problems in a timely manner.
Drafting skills required along with knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
Knowledge of CAD systems preferred.
Project Management skills and ability to create detailed program and project detailed schedule.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills required.
Must be dependable, responsible, and accurate and have the ability to deal with people effectively.
Armtec Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering science with eight plus years of engineering experience required.
Demonstrate ability in the Armtec competencies as an employee: customer focus, ethics and values, problem solving, integrity and trust, functional/technical skills, listening, action-oriented, composure and values diversity.
Education & Professional Work Experience Requirements
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
