Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)
to guide the scientific and strategic direction of the business.
Role Overview: The CSO will be the scientific leader of the company—responsible for shaping and executing the R&D strategy, driving discovery and translational programs, and building a high-performing scientific organization. This individual will work closely with the CEO, Board, and cross-functional leaders to advance novel therapies from concept through development, while ensuring scientific excellence and innovation remain at the heart of the company.
Key Responsibilities: Define and lead the scientific vision and R&D strategy across genetic and rare disease programs. Oversee discovery, translational research, and preclinical development activities. Provide strategic input into clinical development planning and regulatory interactions. Build, mentor, and inspire a world-class scientific team with a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and excellence. Evaluate emerging technologies, partnerships, and in-licensing opportunities to strengthen the pipeline. Represent the company’s science externally — with investors, partners, and the broader scientific community. Partner closely with the CEO and executive team to guide strategic decision-making and corporate growth.
Qualifications & Experience: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related discipline. 15+ years’ experience in biotech or pharma, with a strong track record of leading discovery and early development programs in genetic or rare diseases. Proven ability to translate scientific innovation into therapeutic programs and move assets through IND-enabling and early clinical stages. Demonstrated leadership in building and scaling R&D organizations. Strong understanding of gene therapy, RNA-based therapeutics, or precision medicine approaches. Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills.
