Position Overview The Assistant Controller reports directly to, and collaborates closely with, the Controller at our Monmouth Junction, NJ facility. This key member of the Accounting/Finance team leads core accounting functions, driving accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the department. The Assistant Controller has direct ownership of technical accounting matters, revenue recognition and financial reporting, and plays a central role in preparing for and managing financial audits.
Responsibilities
Ensures compliance with GAAP across all revenue and transactional accounting.
Directs accounting activities to timely and accurately record transactions in the general ledger.
Leads monthly close and reconciliation processes, ensures integrity of intercompany and balance sheet transactions and promptly resolves discrepancies.
Owns technical accounting research and documentation; drafts white papers and accounting memos to support audit and regulatory compliance.
Provides guidance on new accounting pronouncements and assists in generating process improvements, internal controls and optimization of business processes.
Drives successful and timely audit completion by anticipating auditor needs, resolving open items quickly and implementing corrective actions.
Collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure financial policies/processes and process improvements are understood and supported company‑wide.
Manages, coaches and mentors direct reports.
Requirements
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
Minimum 7 years of public accounting/auditing and industry experience in roles of increasing technical and strategic responsibility.
Strong knowledge of Life Science Auditing.
Accounting experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry preferred.
Proven ability to lead accounting treatment for complex issues (e.g., accruals, returns, revenue recognition under ASC 606).
Excellent, hands‑on knowledge of GAAP rules and regulations.
Public Accounting firm experience required.
Experience working directly with external auditors and valuation / tax consultants.
Proven ability to design, implement and monitor internal controls across critical accounting processes.
Proven leadership ability to influence without direct authority.
Work Arrangements Hybrid work environment requiring local candidates to be able to work the majority of the week in our NJ office.
Anticipated Salary Range $170,000 to $225,000 per year (base salary contingent on assessment of candidate’s education and experience and a review of related industry standards and internal equity).
