Unit Overview The Medical Surgical Cardiology Intermediate Care Unit (4RCP) is a 47‑bed unit providing care for adult medical cardiology, cardiac and thoracic surgery patients requiring telemetry monitoring, temporary cardiac pacing, vasoactive and anticoagulant medication infusions. The unit cares for postoperative patients including esophagectomies, Nissen fundoplications, thoracotomies, heart transplantation, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve replacements and transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR). 4RCP also attends to patients with cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, chest pain, post‑percutaneous coronary interventions, arrhythmia management, and left ventricular‑assist‑devices (LVAD). The unit has earned a Gold Beacon Award for Excellence by AACN and holds several Joint Commission certifications.

Responsibilities
Communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and other health care professionals in an effective manner and maintain positive, cooperative relationships
Utilize and maintain electronic communication systems to ensure communication among the health care team members and patients/families
Provide information and direction to health care personnel and visitors; answer the telephone, take and deliver messages, and assist in keeping White Boards updated daily
Help answer call lights, maintain call‑light system, and relay information to appropriate team members in a timely manner
Proficient in navigating web‑based resources and using online clinical and business applications
Perform computer functions within scope of role as defined by the individual unit
Maintain accurate census information (e.g., timely ADT entry into IDX, premise bed board activities, correct level of accommodation charges, and census reconciliation)
Process patient charges including batching charges in a timely manner, as appropriate
Notify appropriate health care professionals of a patient admission and prepare the required forms with patient identification information
Complete and maintain hospital and nursing records
Use appropriate medical terminology and symbols, i.e. verbal, written and electronic
Assist health care providers in scheduling patient tests and appointments
Practice standard precautions in infection control in accordance with institutional policy
Assist staff during emergencies and other patient cares and services as directed
Maintain a process for ordering, obtaining, and storing supplies that is cost effective and meets unit needs
Participate in unit staff meetings and in‑services
Perform other projects or tasks as assigned
Schedule & Compensation Percent of Time:
50% – 20 hours per week
Schedule:
Weekends, Saturday and Sunday 0700‑1730, including holidays that fall on the weekend

Graduation from high school and any combination of clerical experience, health care experience and/or post high school education totaling one year; or
Any combination of clerical experience and/or health care experience totaling two years
Desirable Qualifications
6 months of clerical experience
Public contact/customer service experience
Medical terminology knowledge
Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel
Excellent communication skills
