Sr Unit Research Administrator

Job Summary The Senior Unit Research Administrator serves as a liaison among Principal Investigators, Sponsored Research, and Research Financial Management. The role supports the development and implementation of college‑level research administration policies, assists faculty in identifying funding opportunities, and provides oversight of complex or large‑scale grants and contracts. The administrator may supervise or lead other Research Administrators and provide training and guidance on federal, state, and institutional research policies.
Responsibilities
Lead training and professional development programs for Research Administrators, ensuring consistent application of research policies.
Supervise and mentor unit research administrators; review complex or high‑value proposals and awards.
Serve as a key resource for advanced cases, including multi‑institutional collaborations, large industry partnerships, and projects subject to export control regulations.
Lead investigations into compliance challenges, collaborating with the Associate Dean of Research to implement solutions.
Manage effort reporting compliance and coordinate timely submission of all college‑wide effort and activity reports (PERT).
Collaborate with faculty on grant and contract proposals, ensuring compliance with sponsor, university, foundation, and college regulations.
Provide technical assistance in proposal preparation, including narrative review, editing, and detailed budget development.
Oversee post‑award management, including award setup, modifications, sub‑recipient agreements, and financial transaction monitoring.
Coordinate hiring documents and grant‑funded tuition payments; confirm funds for personnel supported by grants and contracts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree plus four years of research or research administration experience. A Master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience. The Bachelor’s degree is non‑substitutable.
Preferred Experience: Experience serving as a strategic liaison among faculty, Sponsored Research, and Research Financial Management, translating complex sponsor and institutional policies into actionable guidance. Demonstrated expertise with federal, state, and private sponsor regulations (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE, DOD, NEH, major foundations).
Employment Details Full‑time, Mid‑Senior level; Salary range: $45,500 – $80,000 annually (variable). Benefits include medical, dental, and life insurance; retirement plan options; tuition assistance; generous leave; and employee perks.
