Job Summary The R&O Electronics Technician III is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying repair and overhaul electronic components, electro‑mechanical assemblies, parts, equipment, and systems.
Essential Functions
Read component maintenance manuals, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and engineering instructions for assembling and testing electronic or mechanical units.
Test electronics units using standard test equipment, analyze results, adjust and replace defective circuitry or components, and write reports.
Interpret manuals, drawings and schematics; resolve equipment malfunctions; work with manufacturers and field representatives as needed.
Troubleshoot customer failures down to the component level and train others in best practices.
Conduct repairs of customer‑owned hardware down to the board level using soldering iron, heat gun, and other necessary equipment.
Maintain system logs and manuals to document testing and operation.
Provide customer support and education, working with users to identify needs and provide product use information.
Provide user applications and engineering support for new and existing equipment regarding installation, upgrades, and enhancement.
Perform automated testing and performance testing with specialized equipment.
Perform manual testing of standard and special‑purpose test equipment (multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc.).
Practice safe work habits as established by OSHA and Crane policy.
Support Crane Business System (CBS) initiatives and cross‑train less experienced technicians.
Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary.
Perform any other task assigned by supervisor or management.
Non‑Essential Functions
Support customer visits.
Support internal and external audits.
Perform minimal work under a microscope or soldering.
Minimum Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in a related field.
Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting methods and circuitry or mechanical characteristics; familiarity with manufacturing or repair environment.
Computer systems knowledge and ability to identify complex problems and develop solutions.
Good oral and written English communication skills.
Time‑management skills and ability to learn new test software and equipment.
Manual and finger dexterity for precise movements.
AA degree in Electronics or Mechanical Technology or equivalent experience.
Eligibility to access Controlled Data or Information as required by U.S. DoD regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control.
Hands‑on experience with circuit boards, processors, and computer hardware/software.
Working Conditions
Repair station environment with required personal protective equipment.
Exposure to noise, cold, confined spaces, dust, or fumes.
May require occasional travel to support customers.
