Position Overview:
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services seeks an organized, professional, and results-oriented individual to serve as Permanency Specialist. Under general supervision, this position will provide professional child welfare casework services to children and families, determining needs and coordinating placement in substitute care. The role includes conducting client interviews, developing treatment plans, and ensuring the safety and stability of children and youth.
Essential Functions
Provide professional casework services to children and families as a Permanency Specialist.
Work with intact families and children in home or substitute care.
Conduct interviews with clients and professionals to gather information for diagnosis and treatment plan development.
Transport clients when necessary for protective custody, placement changes, or placement location changes.
Prepare and maintain case documentation for planning, implementation, and evaluation of services.
Participate in case staffing, multidisciplinary conferences, and case transfer facilitation.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferably a master’s degree in social work or related human services field, with at least one year of directly related professional casework/case management experience; or
Bachelor’s degree in social work with one year of related experience; or
Bachelor’s degree in related human services field with two years of related experience.
Degree program must be accredited and approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
Experience must relate to family preservation, reunification, adoption, youth development, counseling, or advocacy services.
Conditions of Employment
Valid driver’s license, daily access to a vehicle, and proof of insurance.
Ability to pass a background check.
Physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out duties.
Occasional overtime, evenings, weekends, and 24‑hour on‑call duty may be required.
