Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Food Service Worker position is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. This position is located in a Child Development Center (CDC) but may assist with food preparation for the School Age Care (SAC) Program. Overview

The CYP Food Service Worker performs various tasks in food service preparation. Tasks are categorized into Food Preparation and Service, Kitchen Maintenance, and Food Storage, and include the following:

Food Preparation and Service

Assist in food preparation with tasks such as peeling potatoes; cutting, sorting and washing vegetables and fruits; assembling sandwiches; and measuring and weighing ingredients.

Stock food service carts with utensils, plates, bowls, food and beverages for family-style dining in classrooms or activity areas.

Wrap, arrange, and/or package items for serving to children and youth.

Transport food from kitchen area to classrooms or activity areas.

Return carts, dishes, and leftover food to the kitchen and dispose of all food waste and trash.

Kitchen Maintenance

Pre-rinse and wash pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware in a mechanical dishwasher or manually per sanitation regulations.

Clean serving carts, food preparation areas, cupboards, drawers, and dishwashing areas.

Set up and operate a mechanical dishwasher.

Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment parts and areas.

Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks in the food service and related areas and maintain a clean work space in accordance with NAVMED P5010 and local policies.

Operate and maintain electrical equipment assigned to the area for food preparation.

Store sanitized dishes and silverware.

Food Storage

Label and date items in refrigerators and freezers; store leftovers according to sanitation standards.

Store canned, boxed, and/or frozen items in the food storage area.

Unload food and supplies from delivery trucks.

Additional Responsibilities

Comply with security, fire and sanitation rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.

Ensure compliance with USDA CACFP standards and related policies and regulations.

Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services per local policy in suspected cases of child abuse/neglect.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

Must satisfactorily complete background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks and state checks.

Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide immunization evidence, be free of communicable diseases, and obtain immunizations as required.

Ability to sustain walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Must obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.

Ability to complete required training certificates and maintain certifications required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation bodies used by DoD Child and Youth Programs.

Qualifications

Note: Resumes must include information demonstrating experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as they relate to this position. A qualified candidate possesses the following:

Knowledge of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures.

Knowledge of measuring ingredients and basic recipe construction.

Knowledge of basic arithmetic for portioning and servings.

Working knowledge of diet principles and sanitation standards to prevent contamination.

Ability to perform tasks involving several procedures and to solve practical production problems.

Ability to develop standardized recipes for quantity cooking and adjust recipes for equipment capacity and servings.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, and strong interpersonal skills.

Education

H.S. Diploma or equivalent. Note: A copy of your HS diploma, GED, or college transcripts must be submitted when applying.
