Major Accounts Manager
NiSource invites applications for the Major Accounts Manager position. The role focuses on managing the company’s largest electric and natural gas customers, representing 38% of total electric margin (~$500 million) and 15% of natural gas margin (~$90 million).
Key Responsibilities
Professionally represent NiSource as the solutions provider for assigned customers.
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure safe, timely energy delivery.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key decision‑makers.
Manage all facets of the business relationship, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
Evaluate growth projects with understanding of cash flow, ROI, and tariff requirements.
Coordinate and manage economic development growth projects with cross‑functional teams.
Negotiate and execute commercial agreements.
Conduct feasibility studies for competitive energy supplies and alternative energy sources.
Identify and monitor at‑risk customers, implementing plans to manage financial exposure.
Forecast assigned customer revenue, margin, and usage to support financial planning.
Provide customer feedback to inform tariff, product, and service development.
Support regulatory and stakeholder initiatives.
Act as a technical energy advisor to customers, demonstrating deep industry knowledge.
Maintain safety, inclusion, and diversity standards in all interactions.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Management, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of comparable experience in utilities or energy industries.
Strong interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and contract development skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
Solid understanding of rate‑making concepts, tariffs, and regulatory agencies.
Knowledge of utility core competencies (design, installation, O&M) and market operations like RTO, MISO.
Experience with commercial & industrial energy applications (HVAC, boilers, CHP, etc.).
Comfort with travel across assigned territory and after‑hours or overnight work.
Commitment to 24/7/365 emergency response availability.
Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Ability to collaborate across NiSource, NIPSCO, and other stakeholders.
Membership or involvement in professional energy or utility associations is preferred.
Preferred Additional Qualification
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.
Physical Demands Required to perform tasks that may involve traveling off‑site, working outside of normal business hours, and occasional overnight stays. The role demands reliable decision‑making in emergency operations.
Work Authorization Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
