Position Overview The Senior Accountant will serve as the GL Accountant for the company's business unit, a key and growing division specializing in large-scale commercial and residential projects. This is a highly strategic and operational leadership role responsible for the full-cycle financial management of the business unit, including strategic financial planning, complex project accounting, and providing expert financial counsel for mergers and acquisitions. This role will report directly to the organization’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and indirectly to the Senior Vice President (SVP), Operations. The successful candidate will be a true business partner to both the finance and operations teams, providing critical, data-driven analysis to inform decision-making, optimize profitability, and accelerate business growth.
Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy
Support the CFO in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for the business unit, providing detailed variance analysis and actionable insights.
Partner with SVP of Ops and CFO to implement strategic financial plans that align with the company’s long-term growth objectives.
Review monthly and annual financial variances with SVP of Ops and CFO after close to help articulate the performance and direction of the business unit.
Manage all financial systems, internal controls, and processes to ensure data integrity and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Project Accounting & Operations Management
Oversee the accounts payable function, responsible for receiving, processing, coding, and paying vendors and subcontractors.
Provide leadership and assistance to the operational team regarding percentage of completion accounting to ensure costs are tracked to jobs properly and revenue is recognized accordingly.
Partner with the Operations team to analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as job margin, labor utilization, and material costs to identify opportunities for efficiency and cost savings.
Assist CFO and SVP of Integration in implementing portfolio‑defined controls and manage accurate tracking of project budgets, change orders, and profitability from initiation to closeout.
Provide financial oversight for all projects, ensuring compliance with contract terms and billing milestones.
Oversee AR accountant and the application of customer payments to accounts receivable and work with the SVP of Ops to ensure aged invoices are identified and collected.
Team Management & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and professional growth.
Manage daily operations of the finance team, including workflow, performance reviews, and resource allocation.
Serve as a key resource for other department leaders, providing financial training and support to enhance their business acumen.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; a Master’s degree or CPA designation is a plus.
Minimum of 5‑10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
Strong background in project accounting, preferably within the restoration, construction, or a related industry.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively partner with both financial and operational leaders.
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a finance team.
Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
