Duties

Provide information to patients, hospital staff, community physicians, agency and institutional clients related to laboratory testing, specimen collection, laboratory services, result reporting and specimen tracking, including daily faxing of laboratory reports.

Offer patient services including LSARD and outpatient registration processes. Knowledge of insurance providers, billing codes, order entry, Sunquest laboratory information systems, result reporting, crediting functions and discharging per University Hospital policies to comply with regulatory agency mandates such as ICD‑10 CM billing codes and Medicare questionnaires.

Handle all processing of biological specimens to maintain specimen integrity and adhere to safety regulations per established procedures.

Demonstrate competency with Department of Laboratories Information System, Sunquest and Cerner patient management systems.

Assist all clients with problem resolution and provide prompt and accurate resolutions to service issues, testing problems and billing concerns.

Maintain all records and patient files in accordance with University Hospital and departmental policies. Ensure compliance with regulatory agency mandates of labs from NYSDOH, CAP and JCAHO.

Act as a liaison for courier services, identify concerns and arrange services to meet departmental needs.

Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures when required to ensure proper collection and processing per established standards.

Maintain adequate supplies, order and distribute supplies to outreach clients.

Maintain all quality control measures related to patient and customer services centers.

Willingly rotate between the Customer Service Center, the Patient Service Center, and off‑site areas and work hours to meet departmental needs.

Qualifications Required : Associate’s degree and one year of customer service experience in a clinical healthcare setting.

In lieu of a degree, two years of administrative experience including one year of customer service experience in a clinical healthcare setting.

Preferred : Phlebotomy experience. Knowledge of patient registration procedures, regulatory and compliance mandates, insurance providers and billing information. Knowledge of hospital and/or laboratory computer systems.

Pre‑employment Requirements

Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services.*

Complete electronic reference checks with a minimum of three professional references.

Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.*

Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.

Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Compensation Anticipated pay range: $45,372 – $53,060 per year.

Location pay for UUP full‑time positions: $4,000.

Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential: $575.
