Overview Begin a ten‑week training program learning fundamental grooming tasks—brushing, bathing, drying, nail cutting, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—under the guidance of experienced groomers.
Responsibilities
Perform limited grooming services (bath, dry, nail trim, brush, ear clean, gland clean) under supervision.
Ensure the well‑being and safety of all animals in the salon.
Provide excellent customer service to pet parents, addressing inquiries and resolving concerns.
Maintain a clean, sanitary grooming area and keep tools and equipment disinfected.
Schedule appointments, manage paperwork, and maintain accurate grooming records.
Adhere to Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines.
Training Program Outline
Weeks 1‑3: Learn dog behavior, safety, check‑in/out procedures, customer service, grooming policies, and begin on‑the‑job training in bathing and drying techniques.
Weeks 4‑10: Perform bathing and walk‑in services while achieving weekly productivity goals.
Education & Experience
0‑1 year of animal‑related experience (shelter volunteering, pet sitting).
High‑school diploma or GED preferred.
Passion for animals and desire to pursue a career in pet grooming.
Basic understanding of dog breeds, behavior, and common grooming practices.
Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
Work Environment Indoors in a grooming salon; duties include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lbs, standing for long periods, and occasional use of ladders or vacuums. Environment may be noisy and wet.
Salary Hourly: $10.00 – $16.00. Pay ranges may vary by location and state regulations.
